On December 23, International Weightlifting Tournament dedicated to National Hero Fakhraddin Shahbazov’s memory started in the competition hall of Weightlifting Academy in Shuvelan. Young and junior weightlifters born in 1997 and Under, from Sports Organizations operating in Baku and in other regions, participated in the competition organized by Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation and Baku Youth and Sports Directorate.
Winners in 50 kg weight category have already been identified. Omer Javadov won gold medal with a total of 165 kg (75+90) result. Avaz Taghiyev was second with a total of 148 kg (68+80), the third was Heydar Yusifov with a total of 127 kg (56+71) result.
The aim of the tournament is to commemorate martyrs in the National Hero Fakhraddin Shahbazov’s personification , to promote Shahbazov’s lifeline and his sport activities among athletes and youngsters, to develop and promote weightlifting, detect the most powerful athletes and increase their skill level.
