On December 29, an event dedicated to the results of 2017 Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation (AZE WF) was held at the Conference Hall of the AAAF Park Residential Complex. The vice-presidents of the AZE WF- Tofig Heydarov and Ruslan Khanverdiyev, General Secretary Rizvan Rasulov, members of the Presidium of the federation, as well as distinguished athletes, their coaches and other specialists participated in the ceremony.
Tofig Heydarov,the vise-president of AZE WF, took a floor. He estimated the last weightlifting year, noting that it was an important year and talked about successes. Heydarov said it was a great success for us to win 1 gold and 3 bronze medals at the IV Islamic Games in Baku , to get a license to the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos-Aires, Argentine next year, as well as our team’s championship in the medal account in European Championship, in Prishtina, Kosovo. Vice President noted that big steps were taken to expand and improve the material-technical base of weightlifting in 2017, new halls were constructed in Astara, Baku and surrounding areas, Gobustan and other places, major repairs were carried out at existing bases. Tofig Heydarov added that the federation managed to organize the national competitions at a higher level. At the end, he stated the implementation of anti-doping policy, great successes in this fight, serious steps taken towards solving one of the major problems of weightlifting, and praised the activity of the newly established National Anti-Doping Agency of Azerbaijan.
Then, the best athletes, coaches and referees of the year were awarded with a special souvenir plaque and prizes for their achievements. The winners of AZE WF are:
