He said:” All of our athletes performed decently. Overall, I am very satisfied with the results. For the first time I went to Youth Olympics. Therefore, my joy knew no bounds when I saw our young people who love sports and defend the sporting honor of the country. I hope that our youth who have successfully performed, and even those who have not clinched the medals, will demonstrate a decisive victory in the main four-year games of the seniors and grab medals for our country.
These athletes are still very young. If they will not be able to attend in Tokyo 2020, so I consider that they will put on a good show at the 2024 Paris Olympics “.
Speaking about the performances of our weightlifters, A.Aliyev added that the Azerbaijan Weightlifting team consisting of male and female athletes will board on the platform at the Ashgabat World Championship. This championship is a qualifying round for the upcoming Olympic Games in Japan 2020.
A.Aliyev said: “Azerbaijan weightlifter Tarmenkhan Babayev pinched silver in the Olympic Games. And this is a very good indicator for the Weightlifting Federation. He is a European champion. So we have great hopes to him. He can get a medal at the Tokyo Olympics. We hope that Tarmenkhan will constantly increase his performance and will show such a decent result.
The priority task of the Weightlifting Federation is to grow up young athletes. Our athletes have won 1 gold and 2 silver medals at the European Youth Championship. The youth has a very good potential and we just try to develop a team of youth. We believe in that these athletes will compete for medals in the Tokyo and Paris Olympics. “
