European Weightlifting Championship, among young weightlifters U-15 and U-17, to be held in Prishtina, the capital of Kosovo, on 22-30, continues. 305 athletes (130 girls and 175 boys) from 40 countries will compete in this competition. Azerbaijan National team is also among the participants.
Today, one of our athletes – Tarmenkhan Babaev joined the medal struggle. He competed in 85 kg weight category, among U-15 boys.
Tarmenkhan successfully completed all three attempts in snatch and eventually scored 130 kg and was the first in this movement, leaving behind 15 kg the Bulgarian Stefcho Khristov.
Babaev made a more spectacular performance in clean and jerk. In his first attempt, he lifted 150 kg. This meant the upgrading of 4 kg European record (146 kg) by Hungarian athlete Adrian Terebesin, set by juniors in World Weightlifting Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, in April this year.
Babaev also renewed the European record (276 kg) set by greek athlete Evangelios Galiatsatos in this weight category in European Juniors Weightlifting Championship, in Landscrona, Swedish, in 2015.
Then our athlete lifted 155 kg in his second attempt and renewed the 2 record both in this movement and in total. Tarmenkhan, who was able to overcome 161 kg in his last attempt, added two more records.
Fantastic result!
Our athlete was the champion of European Championship with a total of 291 kg (130+161) result. It is a spectacular indicator that Tarmenkhan Babaev renewed six European records among athletes U-15. Such results are rarely encountered.
After Rustam Gasimov and Sabina Azimova in the competition in Kosovo, it is a great honor that Tarmenkhan rose to the highest step of honorary chair by winning a gold medal with such a beautiful performance.
Congratulations to Babaev and thank all those who contributed to this wonderful victory.
Bravo, Tarmenkhan!
