Following the “Baku 2015 – European Games” and “Baku 2017 – Islamic Solidarity Games”, the National Olympic Committee has already organized the III “Victory Day”. At the event, the athletes, representing our country in the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos-Aires 2018, met with public figures, especially media representatives.
The vice-president of NOC Chingiz Huseynzadeh, the head of sports department of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Farid Mansurov, the deputy general secretary of NOC Azer Aliyev, former Olympic champions, representatives of different national federations and others have been the participants of the event.
At the commencement of the ceremony, comprehensive information about the competition was provided and was excursions into the history. It was noted that the results achieved in Buenos Aires are of great importance. Unlike many competitions, here have been intense fighting and hard to win medals. Despite this, our athletes were able to raise our flag and properly represent Azerbaijan, and sound our anthem.
Then, video clips on our participation in the Olympics were demonstrated. Later, C.Huseynzadeh congratulated the athletes participating and winning medals at the Games: “Our other athletes who have failed to clinch medals also struggled with persistence. Our athletes and tennis players competed very well. This time, each of the 7 medals won in different sports. So far no results have been achieved. This indicates the development of sport in Azerbaijan. I would like to note that our gymnast grabbed a gold within a mixed team. I am so grateful for the President of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation Mehriban Aliyeva. Congratulations to all the athletes”.
Then athletes were awarded diplomas and prizes of the Organizing Committee of the Games. Two out of 17 Azerbaijan athletes sent to Argentine were weightlifters. Lala Rzazadeh showed a decent performance even though she was in the 6th in her bodyweight category and was the first women to board on the platform in the Olympics.
